June 12, 2019
Mabuhay!
This is a photo and video journal of our DIY travel to the Province of Bulacan featuring our visit to the historic city of Malolos witnessing the celebration of the 121st  Philippine Independence Day.
Getting There
Our journey started in Angeles City. It was a 1 hour 13 minutes car drive to the Malolos City Hall. Malolos City is also around 2 hours car ride to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

MALOLOS CITY OLD CITY HALL
Malolos City is the capital of the Province of Bulacan.

The bust monument of Marcelo H. Del Pilar considered a national Philippine hero, is a local son of Bulacan Province. A Filipino writer, lawyer, and journalist, he is one of the leaders of the Reform Movement in Spain. He died in Barcelona, Spain in 1896 due to tuberculosis.

The 1940 Malolos Municipal Hall

This building serves as the 3rd town hall of Malolos. Erected in 1940 in Art-Deco by Pedro Siochi with Sunga and Sons of contactors from Guagua, Pampanga commissioned by Mayor Leon Valencia. This is the modern town hall after the abandonment of Casa Real de Malolos which was ceded to Barasoain in 1858 and Casa Tribunal de Malolos (2nd town hall) when it was ceded by the Americans to the Adriano Family in 1940 after its function as a town hall, military office, jailhouse to American and Philippine Constabulary.

Upon the near completion of the 5-story city hall along McArthur Highway, this building will soon be joining the heritage buildings in the old downtown of Malolos.

Another pride son of Bulacan is Francisco Balagtas. Balagtas is his Filipino surname but the Spanish authorities require him to use a Spanish surname so he chose Baltasar. A Filipino poet who championed the Tagalog language during the Spanish rule in the Philippines. His most famous complete literary masterpiece is the epic Florante at Laura, which he wrote while still in prison.

The portrait of Francisco Balagtas Baltasar appeared in 10 cents-coin from 1975 to 1994
