JAPAN Travel Experience, Roaming around Dotonburi - Day 3 Part 3

June 28, 2019
Mabuhay!

This is a photo and video journal of day 3- Part 3 of our group travel adventure in Japan - a unique but incredible country, featuring our river cruise ship in Dotunburi River & enjoying the nightlife of Dotunburi.
Getting There
Dotonburi is around 13 minute car ride from our previous destination Hep Five Mall.

Enjoying the Cruise Ride in Dotonburi River
The cruise ship accommodating around 50 persons, cruises around the Dotonbori River for about 20 minutes. Our journey starts in front of the Ebisu Tower of Don Quijote Dotonbori store, crosses nine bridges including Nipponbashi, Ebisu Bridge, and Daikoku Bridge, then turns around near Minatomachi River Place. Along the way, the guide gives detailed explanations about Osaka and Dotonbori's history and information about the signboards.

  • Glico Man
Originally installed in 1935, the sign depicting a giant athlete on a blue track symbolizes
Glico candy. The sign has been altered several times to celebrate events such as the World Cup and show support for the Osaka baseball team, the Hanshin Tigers. The current version is the sixth, which uses LEDs and was installed in October 2014. The previous five incarnations of the sign used neon lights. In 2020, to celebrate Takuma Sato and his second Indy 500 victory, the sign changes every 15 minutes to an image of Sato performing the "Glico Man Pose." The sign is just west of Ebisubashi, on the south bank of the canal.
