This is a photo and video journal of our family outing to Cagayan De Oro City, Mindanao Island, in the Philippines. This is supposed to be our first out-of-town trip after the pandemic.

Our 2-hour travel itinerary starts with a car ride from our city to Makati City, known as the Financial District of the Philippines, then proceeds to the departure area of NAIA Terminal 3.

The accommodation that we booked at Airbnb is cozy and just right for 3 to 4 backpackers who are always on the move. The caretaker staff is very hospitable and friendly.

Just when I thought we were in “vacation mode,” my son leaned over and said: “What if I make a bomb joke at the airport?” Oh, I knew exactly what would happen. I calmly explained that we would immediately become the main attraction at Terminal Security Theater. That our bags would be unpacked by strangers wearing gloves. That our phones would vanish. That our holiday would be replaced with interviews, paperwork, and possibly handcuffs. Airports are special places. They do not do sarcasm. They do not do irony. They definitely do not do jokes involving certain words. The joke died a quiet, necessary death. We boarded our flight on time—uninterrogated, unarrested, and still on speaking terms. Sometimes good parenting isn’t about raising good kids. It’s about preventing them from becoming international incidents.😥 |

Laguindingan Airport, also referred to as Laguindingan International Airport, is an international airport in Northern Mindanao that serves the cities of Cagayan de Oro, Iligan, and Marawi, as well as the provinces of Misamis Oriental, Lanao del Norte, and Bukidnon in the Philippines. The airport is the second-busiest in Mindanao after Francisco Bangoy International Airport in Davao City.
