This is a photo and video journal of Day 3 - Part 1 of our family outing to Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao Island, Philippines. It highlights our visit to Camp Phillips in Bukidnon Province, where pineapples are cultivated for a popular pineapple juice product.

Getting There

It's a 1-hour trip via shuttle van from CDO city proper to Camp Philips, Bukidnon

Shuttle vans going to Camp Philips, Bukidnon, are stationed in the Market City Mall in downtown CDO.

This trip gives us a glimpse of the countryside on the city's outskirts toward the province of Bukidnon.

Bukidnon is a landlocked province in the Philippines located in the Northern Mindanao region. Its capital is Malaybalay City, while Valencia is the largest city. The name "Bukidnon" means "highlander" or "mountain dweller." Situated on a broad plateau in the north-central part of Mindanao, the province is known as the region's food basket, primarily producing rice and corn. It also produces pineapples, bananas, and sugarcane from local plantations.

Camp Philips, Bukidnon

I learned from an online article that they called these camps not because a US military base is located here, but because the Americans who established the plantation adapted the name "camp" from the US when providing housing for their workers. They used to call them Camp 1, 2, 3, and so on. 

However, when the Americans left, they named Camp 12 after the pioneer Lawrence Phillips.
