This is a photo and video journal of our budget travel to Siem Reap, Cambodia featuring our visit to the Baphoun Temple of the Angkor Thom, a three-tiered temple mountain in the Angkor temple complex.

The Angkor Temple complex is built over 400 sq. km of land area within the span of 7 centuries. It is the largest religious monument in the world.

Angkor Thom is not a temple, which is a very common misconception. As the name implies, Angkor meaning "city" and Thom meaning "big".

The Baphoun Temple is located in Angkor Thom, northwest of the Bayon. Built in the mid 11th century. It is a three-tiered temple mountain built as a state temple of Udayadityavarman II dedicated to the Hindu-god Shiva. It is characterized by of having square openings and post & lintel arches.
