BUSINESS TRAVEL TO CHINA 2018: DAY 3

October 30, 2018
MABUHAY!
This is a photo and video journal of my business travel to China featuring day 3 of our itinerary that includes the performance mock-up (PMU) test and departure from Baiyun International Airport.

GETTING THERE
Our travel route map is a 1-hour car drive from Jiagao Business Hotel to Guangzhou City where the testing center is located.

Tunnels such as this that go through a mountain are very common in this highway going to Guanzhou.

There are also traffic jams along the way.

I saw a Christian church along the way. China allows Christians and other religious groups to worship in this country but the Chinese government oversees their activities.

THE TESTING CENTER
The Guangzhou Building Materials Institute Limited Company (GML) is a government-owned testing center for various types of building materials. China nowadays is very serious in producing quality materials to stay on top of the construction industry's worldwide competition.

CURTAIN WALL PERFORMANCE MOCK-UP TEST (PMU)
ASTM E 331 STANDARD TEST METHOD FOR WATER PENETRATION OF EXTERIOR WINDOWS, CURTAIN WALL AND DOORS BY UNIFORM STATIC AIR PRESSURE DIFFERENCE
Using the chamber developed for mock-up testing, a pressure differential is applied across the wall assembly, while simultaneously applying water spray onto the exterior surface. The testing is performed to show the water penetration resistance of the designed wall system and transitions between wall system components.

The water pipes are set-up to simulate rainfall and test the installed mock-up for the manifestation of leaks.

Joints and accessories are being inspected for water leak marks.

The water spray test will be 15 to 30 minutes

AAMA 501.1 STANDARD TEST METHOD FOR WATER PENETRATION OF WINDOWS, CURTAIN WALLS AND DOORS USING DYNAMIC PRESSURE
This water penetration testing consists of utilizing a portable wind generator and installing a spray rack system at the exterior of the specimen.

SETTING-UP

Inspection to check the manifestation of a leak.

Our "thumbs-up" pose indicating our testing is done.
I am glad to be part of this business travel in China. I was able to see a glimpse of a small part of this beautiful "GIANT" country. Also, my former perception of China of producing poor quality products really changes because I actually witnessed from the series of ocular inspections of how they manufacture products nowadays with much emphasis on quality. No wonder China now leads the worldwide economy and is now officially considered a "SUPERPOWER."

DINNER TIME
Our car service has a hologram light logo underneath.

The view of Foshan City skyline from a distance.
Our Chinese host treated us to dinner in this very elegant seafood house. From its entrance, I thought this is a five-star hotel.

DEPARTURE AT BAIYUN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
In terms of its architectural design, I think this is one of the most beautiful airports I've seen.

I would like to thank our generous Chinese hosts: Louie, Frank, Engr. Mar, Phoebe & Mr. Wang which made this ocular inspection very memorable & successful.
