Souvenir photo in Burnham Park |
If my memory serves me right, I think this is the last time my wife and I visited the
"Summer Capital of the Philippines". This is a photo journal of our
travel in this magnificent city and these photos are in random order because I already forgot their proper sequence. But my best recollection of Baguio City at that time is the very cold weather that is conducive for romantic affairs especially for very young lovers like us.

Baguio was established as a hill station by the Americans in 1900 at the site of an Ibaloi village known as Kafagway. The Philippines is under the American rule at this time. It was the United States' only hill station in Asia. The name of the city is derived from bagiw, the Ibaloi word for "moss".

At Mines View Park |
MINES VIEW PARK is the perfect spot to gaze upon the spectacular view of Benguet's gold and copper mines and also, of course, the Cordilleras mountain ranges. But during "BER" months where rains are prevalent, the weather gets very low and the fog gets too thick that the visibility is almost zero.

At Burnham Park |
BURNHAM PARK was named after architect Daniel Burnham, a pioneer in the field of urban and city planning. Burnham, who was commissioned by the American Governor-General at that time, designed Baguio as a mountain retreat for Americans who want to escape Manila's heat. The park is surrounded by Pine canopy trees and has a man-made lake where one can rent a boat to paddle around the water and enjoy the scenery.

Taking a morning shower in Baguio City during "BER" months is a challenge indeed. We have to boil water for us to get a hot shower. My wife is preparing the big kettle in the stove for hot water.

There are moments in time when you wish you just want to be frozen into it. But, we need to move on and live.
