BUDGET TRAVEL TO INCREDIBLE INDIA: VISIT TO GODHRA, PANCHMAHAL, GUJARAT

July 12, 2018
MABUHAY!
This is a photo and video journal of our budget travel to the incredible country of India featuring our visit to Godhra in the state of Gujarat.
DEPARTURE FROM MUMBAI
After our adventures in Mumbai, we boarded a train going to Godhra. We will be meeting a friend there.

Local passengers are accustomed to sleeping on the floor while waiting for their departure time.

Arvind, our friend in Mumbai, gave us these lemons from his farm.

TRAIN RIDE TO GODHRA
The ticket that we bought is for an economy class coach only. We already anticipated that there will be a lot of people coming in and out of the train coach.

It's an ordinary sight for the locals to sleep in the baggage compartment since nobody will put their bags there unattended.

Because there was no place to lie down below in the economy coach due to so many people, I slept on top that is in the baggage cabin like one of the locals.

ARRIVAL IN GODHRA TRAIN STATION
After traveling for almost 8 hours, we arrived at Godhra train station. Our Indian friend is already waiting for our arrival.

MEETING OUR HOST FAMILY
From the Godhra train station, we boarded an auto rickshaw for a 20-minute ride to the house of our host family. They gave us a room to rest and fed us with home-cooked Indian food.

Enjoying our lunch with our host family.

Our simple lunch is Roti- an Indian flatbread paired with soups, potatoes & spices.

ROAMING AROUND GODHRA
Godhra which means the "Land of the Cow" is in the middle part of India. By the way, cows are highly respected and revered in India. In most states of India, the slaughter of cattle is prohibited and their meat is taboo.

Motorbikes and scooters are also very popular in India.

Godhra is a small sleepy municipality in the district of Panchmahal in the state of Gujarat.
